Biographical Notes

Kendra Spanjer

Kendra divides her time between being "a writer who illustrates" and "an illustrator who writes."

She and Karla Oceanak are the co-creators of a clever, collaborative, alphabetically inspired graphic novel for middle grade readers: the Aldo Zelnick Comic Novel Series, published by Bailiwick Press, which so far includes Artsy-Fartsy (December 2009), Bogus (June 2010), Cahoots (May 2011), Dumbstruck (August 2011), Egghead (spring 2012) and Finicky (fall 2012). (Z or Bust.)

As a freelance copywriter by day, Kendra is kept busy with research projects, marketing copy, editing, naming, feature articles, scripts, proposals and client correspondence – but she always looks forward to the occasional logo design, the opportunity to build her illustration portfolio, and the day when she'll jump back into studio art refreshed and ready to create.

Kendra and fellow commercial artist Wendy started The Inkerers, an art collaborative that hosts monthly Artist Trading Card swaps in Fort Collins.

When she invents spare time for herself to fill, Kendra enjoys skiing, cycling, exploring, discovering new music, watching trains go by, decorating cupcakes with her sister Dana and making faces in the mirror.
